What is Fermi’s Paradox? Elon Musk says XAI Venture could find Alien Life

  • Elon Musk said he hopes his new AI venture will solve the Fermi paradox.
  • The theory seeks to understand why aliens have yet to be found by humans.
  • Musk has previously cited the paradox to justify space colonization.

Elon Musk believes AI will solve the problem of why we haven’t made contact with aliens.

On Saturday, Musk, the founder of the galaxy exploration company SpaceX, explained on Twitter Spaces that his new company, xAI, would aim to create artificial general intelligence – or AI that can perform intellectual tasks and be smarter than humans .

He believed that this AI would understand “the true nature of the universe” and solve the mysteries of dark matter, dark energy and gravity. It might also solve the Fermi paradox.

This paradox, which has interested Musk for years, begs the question: Why have we not met or found evidence of other technologically advanced intelligent life, even though it is statistically very possible that we should? already done? And if we haven’t found signs of alien life, does that mean they don’t exist?

The paradox is attributed to Enrico Fermi, the man behind the first nuclear reactor, who once asked, “Where’s everybody” after reading and discussing a New Yorker cartoon featuring aliens jumping out of a spaceship.

His friends, who later recalled the conversation, say that the physicist brought up many theories as to why aliens had not yet visited the earth, including that space travel of that magnitude was impossible.

“Fermi realized that any civilization with a modest amount of rocket technology and a small amount of imperial incentive could quickly colonize the entire Galaxy,” according to Search NASA for Space Intelligence Institute. “Within a few ten million years, every star system could be brought under the wing of the Empire.”

Researchers have offered multiple theories to explain this paradox. One hypothesizes that aliens, just like us, have created a system where technological progress is based on the use of fossil fuels, resulting in the eventual destruction of their civilization before they can make contact.

Other theories suggest that radio signals sent by aliens have not yet been received by Earth, that intelligent life lives on the interior of another planet rather than on the outside, or that aliens do not feel like they are talking to a less intelligent species – on called the ” Great Indifference.”

Musk is very interested in the paradox in his “concern” that we are the only signs of intelligent life in the universe.

“This is why we must preserve the light of consciousness by becoming a spacefaring civilization and expanding life to other planets,” Musk tweeted in 2018.

Representatives for Musk did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
