Wix will let you build an entire website using only AI tips

Wix is a template-based website builder Announced will allow you to quickly create entire websites by typing a description into a box and answering a few follow-up questions. Everything, from the design to the text and images, will then be automatically generated for you, and from the looks of things, it will be quite fast.

In the past, companies like Wix and WordPress.com have allowed you to create websites using templates that you can change to your liking. But Wix says its new AI Site Generator feature goes beyond templates, using AI and algorithms to create a “unique” website.

Currently, the company uses a combination of “out-of-the-box models” such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, and its own tools to achieve all of this, said Yaara Asaf, head of Wix product in an email to The Championship. ChatGPT will handle text creation, with DALL-E and the company’s own AI models doing the rest. If Wix’s new AI site generator works well enough, it could make building a website more accessible than ever.

A video shows off the new feature, starting with “Wix AI” asking what the website will be for. In the video the user writes that they want a fitness site and gives some details about what they offer. The chatbot then asks if it should include any other details and, in the final step, shows some sample pictures of fitness trainers and asks the user to choose the one that best represents the desired result in terms of style and Feelings.” The user selects one and then clicks “Generate Site.”

After that, a bunch of whooshing graphics show that it is generating the site, and within seconds it seems to be done. To edit, the user opens a prompt window to ask questions about layout and other styles, for example, and then chooses from the options provided. It’s unclear how similar the actual process will be compared to the video – though it’s almost certainly better than the process that led to my cursed AOL homepage from the early 2000s.

The resulting website is great. Maybe that’s a little generic, but it’s much more professional-looking than anything I’ve ever managed to create using WordPress.com, and it’s completely different from what you could have done with Wix 10 a year ago. It has fancy scrolling animations and graphics, cut-out images, and more – all the stuff you’ve come to expect from today’s thriving, fancy websites.

I asked Wix how much direct control you’ll have to customize the site after it’s generated, and Yaara Asaf, Wix’s head of product, said that users will have “complete control over every aspect of their site” using the Wix Editor.

Also, while the copy that Wix’s AI creates on this hypothetical website looks good, we already know that chatbots have trouble with the truth, so it’s hard to know how It will be tedious to ensure that the data is correct on your own site. And if you’re worried that an easy website builder will result in lots of quick websites full of inappropriate content, Asaf says “[ChatGPT] it has a built-in model to prevent inappropriate content generation; We plan to use OpenAI moderation.”

With AI companies increasingly targeting copyright infringement lawsuits, there is also the question of who is responsible if someone sues you over an AI-generated part of your Wix site? At a minimum, the content that Wix will make “Artificial Design Information (ADI)” is the burden of the company, and one page stating that “Wix ADI generated content, such as content provided by Wix is subject to copyright and other intellectual property rights, under local and international law.”

But if the OpenAI chatbot violates copyright? Well that’s up to the user. Asaf wrote in the email that “users must verify the content before publishing their website,” adding that Wix is ”against all forms of offensive and fraudulent content published on Wix.”

Despite the many questions that remain to be resolved it looks like it has the potential to be an incredible tool. Will Wix’s new AI site generator be used to further flood the web with spam? Oh, probably. But it also has the potential, with friendly enough pricing, to help small businesses and entrepreneurs get a more professional foot forward than they might otherwise.
