Diablo 4 First Battle Pass Doesn’t Give You Enough Platinum To Buy Anything

It’s safe to say that the launch of Diablo 4’s Season of the Malignant was a bit of a disaster. A pre-season patch that completely butchered all classes and Sorcerers caused widespread outrage among the community, getting so bad that Blizzard had to address the issues in a developer live stream that took place last week. Corrections have been promised and the anger was quelled a little, but Diablo 4 players have already found something else to point towards – the Battle Pass of the game.

Diablo 4 promised before launch that each new season will bring a Battle Pass for players to get stuck into, each filled with rewards like cosmetics, emotes, gear, and a sprinkling of premium currency called Platinum. However, if you were hoping to buy something from the Diablo 4 in-game store with that smattering of Platinum, you’re out of luck, as fans recently discovered that the 666 Platinum you’re given isn’t enough to complete the Battle Pass even the cheapest item.

Yes, you read that right. The cheapest item in the Dibalo in-game store costs 4 800 Platinum, which is 134 more than what the game’s Premium Battle Pass gives you. That means if you want to buy something you’ll either have to buy more Platinum on top of the money you spent to actually get a Premium Battle Pass in the first place, or sit on 666 Platinum until the next Battle Pass arrives in Season 2. Either way, it’s not a great situation.

Diablo 4 players aren’t too happy about this as you’d expect, but they’re also complaining about how bad it is through the power of math. Like u/jessewperez who works in the Reddit post above, if you wait and buy the Season 2 Battle Pass, you’ll get 1332 Platinum, which is enough to buy the next season’s Battle Pass for free. After that, you will be left with 332 Platinum.

Add another 666 Platinum on top of that, and you get 998, leaving you two short of another free Battle Pass. It’s a bit of a stretch, but a lot of players think this is a deliberate tactic by Blizzard to stop people from getting too many free Battle Passes. This is all assuming that Blizzard gives the same amount of Platinum each Pass of course, so hopefully we get even the slightest increase in the coming seasons now that Blizzard probably realizes that their fans are happy with them.
