5,300 Immigrants Arrested in Four Days in the Arizona Border Sector

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents have apprehended nearly 5,300 migrants in the past four days, according to a law enforcement source. The sector continues to lead the nation in migrant concerns after a recent shift from the Texas-based border sector.

During a four-day period ending July 24, Tucson Sector agents arrested 5,281 migrants who crossed the border illegally mostly between ports of entry. A large percentage of the migrants who cross the border in this sector do not want to surrender and seek asylum.

The previous week, agents arrested about 9,000 migrants, Tucson Sector Patrol Chief Agent John Modlin tweeted.

During the month of June, Tucson Sector agents arrested 24,360 migrants who crossed between ports of entry. This brought the total for the sector for the year to date to 234,667 migrants. In comparison, agents arrested only 195,115 during the same period last year. The numbers have increased significantly from the totals in FY20 and FY21.

The Tucson Sector is the only southwest border sector not based in Texas that has shown an increase in migrant concerns this year over the past year.

In the five Texas-based border sectors, agents apprehended just over a million migrants during the first nine months of FY22. This year’s apprehension of nearly 908,000 migrants represents a drop of more than 11 percent.

The drop follows Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star increased border security measures, Breitbart Texas reported.

“Governor Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021 to close the dangerous gaps created by President Biden’s reckless open border policies,” Andrew Mahaleris, press secretary for Governor Greg Abbott told Breitbart Texas. “States like Arizona are following President Biden’s lead, allowing more immigrants to enter our country with Texas leading the way.”

“Under Operation Lone Star, Texas National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers arrested more than 393,000 illegal immigrants, detained more than 49,000 illegal immigrants, seized more than 422 million lethal doses of fentanyl and more than 8,000 weapons, and arrested more than 31,000 of the criminal communities opened by their President in Texas.” Abbott’s press secretary concluded. “Until President Biden steps up and does his job, Texas will continue to use every tool and strategy to respond to this border crisis.”
