NASA to hunt for deep-space gamma rays with new high-altitude balloon mission

In August, NASA plans to deploy a high-altitude balloon that will look for gamma rays, or high-energy wavelengths that produce some of the most powerful explosions in our universe. And last week, the agency gave an update on the mission.

The brand new instrument, called ComPair, has officially been sent to its launch site in New Mexico in preparation for next month’s liftoff.
