New Datamined Assets Hint Patch 10.2 Setting

  • New assets datamined from the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm strongly suggest that upcoming patches will focus on the Green Dragonflight and the Emerald Dream.
  • The discovery of an Emerald Dream quest journal background and a green campaign quest header confirms the speculation surrounding the theme of Patch 10.1.7 and possibly 10.2 as well.
  • The confirmation of the Emerald Dream theme has left many players, particularly Druid and Night Elf fans, extremely excited for the upcoming patches.

Some new assets datamined from the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm have heavily hinted that Dragonflight is going to the Emerald Dream. These new assets will likely appear in World of Warcraft Patch 10.1.7 or 10.2.

World of Warcraft is hard at work on Patch 10.1.7, with Patch 10.2 in the wings shortly after. Between hints in recent World of Warcraft cutscenes, the new Dreamsurges event coming in Patch 10.1.7, and other assets discovered in recent PTR builds, many signs are pointing toward the next patch revolving around the Green Dragonflight.

Now, some new assets players have datamined have all but confirmed this. In one of the recent 10.1.7 PTR builds, World of Warcraft players found an Emerald Dream quest journal background page and a green campaign quest header hidden among the files, both of which will probably be used in Patch 10.1.7 and possibly 10.2 as well. UK content creator and World of Warcraft fan MrGM shared the quest log background and the campaign header on his personal Twitter page.

Unique quest backgrounds have been used more frequently in WoW to help the theming of each patch. This particular one–which literally has Emerald Dream in the title–features leaves, magic circles, and a crescent crown reminiscent of an asset World of Warcraft may be using in a model update for Merithra. The green campaign headings that have been used to help players keep track of story chapters in each zone and patch perfectly match the color scheme of the Green Dragonflight, meaning Patch 10.2 will likely revolve around the Green Dragonflight in the same way Embers of Neltharion focused on the Black Dragonflight.

The setting of Patch 10.2 is World of Warcraft’s worst-kept secret. Given the breadth of hints and leaks since Dragonflight first dropped, many players expected one of the patches to involve Amirdrassil and the Emerald Dream. Even so, seeing these new assets unofficially confirming that fact has a lot of players–especially Druid and Night Elf fans–very excited.

Patch 10.1.7 is currently on the Public Test Realm, and is expected to release in September. Players can expect to see an official announcement of Patch 10.2 sometime after that, with the patch itself dropping before the end of the year. Considering Blizzcon is in early November, players will definitely know the name of the major content update by then, if not sooner.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
