Here’s how to connect Apple AirPods to a Mac, an easy way to privately listen to music, watch a video or read an audiobook.
Apple AirPods can connect to just about any Apple product, including iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads, Apple TV and Mac.
In order to connect AirPods to a Mac, the Mac’s bluetooth connection must be turned on, though a WiFi connection isn’t required.
Ensuring Compatibility And Updating Software
If you’re using AirPods (second generation), ensure your Mac has either macOS Mojave 10.14.4 or later. If using AirPods Pro (first generation), your Mac must have macOS Catalina 10.15.1 or later. AirPods Pro (second generation) requires the latest version of macOS. To determine what version your Mac is running on, go to the Apple menu and click “About This Mac.” You will then see a list of the device’s specs including the macOS version. If you need to update your software go to System Settings under the Apple menu. Next, click “General” on the left side and and click “Software Update” on the right. If an update is available, click the button to install it.
How To Enable Bluetooth On Mac
In order to use AirPods, the Mac’s bluetooth must be turned on. Open Apple menu and open the System Settings. Next, scroll down and click “Bluetooth” in the menu. Toggle on the Bluetooth setting. If using an external USB Bluetooth adapter connected to the computer, the bluetooth option may not appear. Try unplugging it to turn it on or off.
How To Connect Airpods To Mac
You must make sure that both AirPods are in their charging case. Next, put the AirPods in pairing mode by opening up the case’s lid and pressing and holding the button on the back of the case until the light inside the case flashes white. On your Mac, open the Apple menu, click on System Settings and head to the “Bluetooth” section. AirPods should show up under the list of bluetooth devices; click this option. Once connected, you’ll then be given the option to enable “Hey Siri” when the two devices are connected.
Switch Airpods To A Different Device
You can easily toggle using your AirPods with different Apple devices. First, make sure the other devices have the latest operating system. Next, sign into these devices with the same Apple ID used on the Mac. Once done, the AirPods will automatically switch to whatever device is playing music, watching a video or playing any kind of audio.
