Starfield Ship Has Ridiculously Long Ladder That Looks Like It Belongs in Snake Eater

Highlights

  • A Starfield player has built an incredibly tall ship with a ladder reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, showcasing the game’s flexibility and creativity in ship design.
  • Starfield allows players to build their dream spaceship, even if it means constructing a towering flying apartment complex.
  • Shipbuilding is a significant part of the Starfield experience, allowing players to create ships inspired by various sci-fi franchises and tailored to their in-game needs.

A Starfield player has constructed their ship to be so tall that the ladder connecting the ship’s floors looks like it comes straight out of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The preposterously tall ship is just another example of how Starfield allows players to build the spaceship of their dreams, even if that dream is to build a flying apartment complex.

Shipbuilding is a key part of the Starfield experience, as it gives players the option to turn their ship into whatever they want, from Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter from the Star Wars prequels to the Batplane from Tim Burton’s Batman from 1989. The system can be daunting at first, but once players learn the ropes after some trial and error, their patience is rewarded with the ability to craft a ship of their own design that best fits their in-game needs.

The footage comes from a member of the Starfield subreddit who goes by the name of Hostgr. The video begins with the player already a few floors up the ladder, then continues for another solid 30 seconds of ladder climbing before reaching the top. They even tossed in the James Bond-inspired Snake Eater theme that plays as Big Boss climbed the interminably long ladder in the PS2 classic.

It appears the ship is eight or nine stories tall, and all told it probably takes close to a full minute to get from the bottom floor to the top. That’s a lot of cargo space. In response to a commenter asking to see a picture of the ship from the outside, Hostgr said they’d post one some other time, as the build isn’t quite done yet, but that they are trying to build a Starfield version of a Naglfar, a dreadnaught-class ship from Eve Online. Naglfar are massive ships that look like jagged swords that slice through space as they move. Where the classic idea of a spaceship seen throughout the history of science fiction imagines the ship’s body extending horizontally like an airplane, Naglfar ships are vertical, essentially making them look like floating skyscrapers that might otherwise populate a city skyline.

Some players are making their ships look like they were ripped straight out of the handful of mega-popular sci-fi properties like Star Wars that everyone knows and loves. However, there’s at least one Starfield player out there taking a different approach by finding their influence in starships of more niche science fiction universes.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
