Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will offer players “special bonuses” if they played Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch early next year and serves as the second installment in a planned trilogy of Final Fantasy 7 remake games. Square Enix recently revealed a slew of exciting details about the game, including exactly how far in the Final Fantasy 7 story it will go.

According to Square Enix, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will end at The Forgotten Capital, a place of significant importance to the FF7 story. Since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a direction continuation of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, some fans may be wondering if the game will allow them to carry over their FF7 Remake saves. Unfortunately for fans hoping to carry over their progress from FF7 Remake, director Naoki Hamaguchi has said that won’t be the case. Hamaguchi explained that each game in the trilogy will be standalone and will be balanced independently. “[…] a player’s levels and abilities will not carry over from one game to the next,” Hamaguchi explained to PlayStation Blog. While this revelation may be disappointing for some players, Hamaguchi did indicate that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will have “some special bonuses” for those that have played FF7 Remake, allowing them to “start with a little something extra.” Specifics on exactly what kind of bonuses fans have to look forward to have yet to be announced.

While Square Enix recently pulled the curtain back on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and confirmed various details about the game, there are still many questions left to be answered. The big one is how significant Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s story changes will be. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, despite being billed as a “remake,” featured some drastic departures from the source material, and it’s expected that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will follow suit, though the extent to which it does remains to be seen.

It’s likely that Final Fantasy fans will have to wait to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for themselves to get their biggest questions answered. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait quite as long as some may have expected to play it, as the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release date is set for early 2024.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches February 29, 2024 for PS5.
